Single Parent Poem

Every single parent starts out all alone.
Strugglin' through the day, tryin' to make a home.
Tryin' to hold a job down, tryin' to raise the kids,
Tryin' to keep the family whole, stayin' off the skids.

You hope, you pray, you spend the day fightin' back the tears.
At night you cry. You don't know why. Your world is full of fears.
The tears, the fears, the loneliness, will it ever end?
The winds of life blow every way. How far can I bend?

(chorus) We're parents without partners, single parents, one and all.
No problem is too big for us. We're not afraid to fall.
We stand together, ready, to help each other out.
We're the world's biggest family. That's what we're about.

A single dad was lonely. He went down to the park.
A single mom was also there. She was on a lark.
They watched their children playing, as single parents do,
And talked of common problems, the same as me and you.

And from that chance encounter there came a quiet call
To gather single parents in a downtown meeting hall.
Their ad was quite successful. Twenty-two were there,
A single parent support group was formed for those who care.

Now there's no single parent who needs to be alone,
Even though the children are all grown up and gone.
Infants, toddlers, teens, adults, we know just what they're worth.
So precious, irreplaceable, from the moment of their birth.

We single parents help each other, help our kids grow strong.
We stick with them through thick and thin, love them, right or wrong.
We're parents without partners, doing the best we can
To help them grow up feeling loved, every woman and man.
